The Myth of Homogeneity: Immigration and Ethnicity in 20th Century Japan

Professor David Kenley of Elizabethtown College presents and leads a videoconference discussion about immigration and its impact on identity in Japan as well as race and ethnicity. In addition to his discussion on immigration, David Kenley talks about what he refers to as the "myth of homogeneity" in Japan. Kenley discusses the "myth of homogeniety" in terms of why it is a myth, who is responsible for perpetuating the myth, and why does the myth of homogeneity continue to be perptuated. 

 


 

 


David Kenley is the Director of the Center for Global Understanding and Peacemaking as well as an Associate Professor of Chinese History at Elizabethtown College.
