Ichikawa Kon

(1915- ) Film director. Born in Mie Prefecture. Known particularly for his cinematic adaptations of Japanese literary works including Kokoro (1955), based on the novel of the same name by Natsume Sōseki; Enjō (1958, Conflagration), based on the Mishima Yukio novel Kinkakuji (The Temple of the Golden Pavillion); and Kagi (1959, The Key; shown abroad as Odd Obsession) and Sasameyuki (1983, The Makioka Sisters), both based on Tanizaki Jun’ichirō novels.
