Jinshin War

672 AD. War of succession following the death of Emperor Tenji, in which Prince Ōama, Tenji's younger brother, deposed Prince Ōtomo, Tenji's son and designated heir. Prince Ōtomo took power as Emeror Temmu (r 672-686). The insurrection is named for the sexagenary cyclical designation, jinshin, corresponding to the year 672 AD.
